Week V Lesson 6 (Midterm)
Software: Systems and Applications.
Types of Computer Software had been discussed, there are two types. The Application software which is web base and I can't remember the 2nd one, haha. Examples are Spreadsheets, Communications, Graphic Package, Data Base Management and Word Processing. The other type is the Systems Software which mainly consists of Operating systems, Control programs and Service Programs.
Different functions of Operating System had been discussed.
Operating System stored in various devices:
1. System Residence Device: If stored in a secondary storage device.
2. Tape Operating Systems: If stored in magnetic tapes.
3. Disk Operating System (DOS): If stored in a magnetic disk,
Different Operating System Programs had been discussed as well:
Control Programs, manages the overall system operations. Examples are, supervisor program and input/output control system.
Service Programs, subprograms or routines that are frequently used by the programmer. Examples are, language translator programs, librarian programs, utility programs and diagnostic programs.
Some information about Application Software that we commonly used has been discussed briefly as well, like paint, spreadsheets and etc.
